Tempest Brewing Co began in 2010 when chef Gavin Meiklejohn started brewing beer to serve alongside his cooking, an interest that grew into a dedicated brewery he later brought to the Scottish Borders. The company settled at Tweedbank, on the edge of Galashiels, and in November 2024 opened a taproom built around a window onto the brewing floor. Sixteen taps rotate through house-brewed cask and keg beer alongside alcohol-free options, wine by the glass and Scottish spirits, with a kitchen turning out burgers, wings and loaded fries. A separate beer-hall room at the back hosts quiz nights, live sport and bands, and dogs are welcome throughout. A shop sells cans, bottles and merchandise to take away. The site is a five-minute walk from Tweedbank railway station, the terminus of the Borders Railway from Edinburgh.
