Joe Morris ran the Village Freehouse on Wilton Road for many years before recently handing the lease to Adrian, who had already worked behind the bar and has kept the pub's format unchanged. As a free house it pours at least three guest ales at a time, chosen from local microbreweries and styles unusual for Salisbury, alongside a dark ale, mild, porter or stout that is always kept on, making it the only regular outlet in the city for that style of beer. The pub sits a short walk from Salisbury railway station, with a function room available for hire and a reputation as a city local rather than a stop for visitors passing through. Dogs are welcome at the bar, and the beer list changes often enough that regulars check before each visit to see what has gone on.
