Bawn

Bawn opened its shop at 613 Pollokshaws Road, near Strathbungo Cross, in May 2021, founded by textile conservator Bevan O'Daly. The shop sells dressmaking fabrics chosen for lower environmental impact, haberdashery, sewing patterns and books for home sewers, and O'Daly also repairs sewing machines on site, drawing on a conservation background rather than a retail one. Workshops on mending and machine use run from the same room as the shop floor, aimed at extending the life of existing clothes rather than encouraging new purchases. It trades from this single Southside address, a ground-floor unit in a red sandstone tenement, with no other branch.
