Browton's Bottle Shop opened in December 2012 behind Ashton's historic indoor market, gaining an on-licence in December 2015 that turned the retail counter into a beer parlour where bottles can be drunk on the spot rather than taken away. The shop has changed hands once, coming under new ownership in June 2024, and keeps a rotating stock of around a hundred bottled beers alongside a single changing cask ale and at least one real cider. On the last Sunday of each month it opens at midday so customers can bring in food bought from the neighbouring Ashton Farmers Market to eat alongside a drink. Regulars are also free to bring their own vinyl and CDs to play over the shop's speakers during opening hours, which run Thursday to Saturday plus that one Sunday session.
