Mockridge Nurseries has grown and sold plants from the same site on Rayner Lane in Ashton-under-Lyne since the 1950s, when the land belonged to grower George Mockridge. The family kept his name after taking over the business, and the nursery has stayed close to its original approach: no gift shop, no café and no garden furniture, just a large range of plants sold at low prices. Stock runs from bedding plants and shrubs to more unusual finds such as bonsai and flowering fuchsias, with staff able to advise on what will suit a particular garden or container. It supplies wholesale customers as well as passing trade, and remains open every day of the week.
