St Andrews Farmhouse Cheese Company makes cheese at Falside Farm near Pittenweem in the East Neuk of Fife, using milk from its own herd of Friesian Holstein cows. The Stewart family set up the dairy in 2008 after identifying a gap in the Fife market for farmhouse cheese made from a single herd's milk. Robert and Jane Stewart, joined by sons Ben and Adam, produce Anster, a mature Anster, a smoked Anster and a St Andrews farmhouse cheddar, named after the traditional Fife cheese style. The founder trained with cheesemakers Leon and Joan Downey in Wales before starting production. A farm cheese counter sells the full range direct, alongside cheese boxes and made-to-order cheese wedding cakes, with online ordering and delivery also available. The farm overlooks the Firth of Forth between Pittenweem and Anstruther. Production stays small-batch and hands-on, with the family involved in milking, cheesemaking and retail rather than supplying supermarkets at scale.
