Cooper King Distillery operates from a converted stable on Stillington Road in Sutton-on-the-Forest, near Easingwold, founded in 2016 by Abbie Neilson and Chris Jaume after the couple returned from working abroad. The distillery makes gin, vodka and whisky in a self-built still house powered entirely by renewable electricity, and distils, bottles and labels every product on site rather than sending work elsewhere. It was the first distillery in Europe to join the 1% for the Planet scheme, giving a share of sales to environmental causes, and plants a square metre of Yorkshire woodland or wildflower meadow for every bottle sold. The site includes a small shop, a tasting room and rooms for overnight stays. Visitors can join a tour on Saturday afternoons, when the still house is open to the public between midday and six.
