Roost occupies an 18th-century Grade II listed carriage house in Talbot Yard, renovated in 2014 by David and Ruth Elkington, who had previously run the CottonHouse Coffee Shop in Helmsley. The espresso bar sits alongside the roastery, where small batches of 100% Arabica beans are hand-roasted on demand using electric roasting equipment rather than gas. Exposed brick walls, leather sofas and a dog-friendly policy mark the interior. Staff pull espresso and pour-overs from whichever beans came off the roaster that week, and customers can buy retail bags to take home. The shop keeps shorter hours than most cafes, opening Tuesday to Saturday from 9am to 3pm and closing on Sundays and Mondays. It sits among half a dozen other food producers converted from the old Talbot Hotel's stable yard.
