Island Turf Crafts, registered as Island Turf Crafts Limited in 2004, makes ornaments, clocks, Celtic crosses, picture frames, paperweights and jewellery from turf cut from Irish boglands said to be around 5,000 years old. The visitor centre on the Dungannon Road in Coalisland includes a small bog museum covering the geology and history of turf-cutting in the area, a short film called 'A Day in the Bog', and a display relating to a former weaving factory on the site. Visitor reviews describe staff as knowledgeable about the local area and happy to talk through the turf-cutting process behind the gifts. It trades from this single Coalisland premises rather than as a multi-site operation, selling both in person and through its own website and an eBay shop. The combination of retail counter and small museum distinguishes it from a purely commercial gift shop.
