The Old Forge sits in Inverie on the Knoydart peninsula, a Gaelic-named stretch of coast (Cnòideart) between Loch Nevis and Loch Hourn, reachable only by the ferry from Mallaig or an 18-mile walk over the hills, since no public road reaches the village. Guinness World Records lists it as the remotest pub on the British mainland. The building began as a cottage in the 1770s and later served as a blacksmith's forge before becoming a pub. After a fourteen-month campaign, Knoydart residents raised over £320,000 to buy it, and the Old Forge Community Benefit Society took over the keys on 28 March 2022, reopening for its first trading season that Easter. Profits go back into the Knoydart community rather than to outside shareholders, and the bar remains free of brewery or pub company ties.
