The Jackdaw is a freehouse on Sutton Road in Tadcaster, built in 1966 for John Smith's brewery to a design by architect Gilbert Ingham that kept the traditional separation between a public bar and a lounge. The pub is recognised for special national historic interest, having retained original tiled gents' facilities and fixed bench seating from its construction, even as some of its oak doors have since been removed and put into storage. Theakston Best Bitter is the regular cask ale, backed by a rotating second line. Food is served at lunchtime and in the evening, and the pub keeps a beer garden, a real fire and space for live music. It opens from ten in the morning on weekdays, from midday at weekends, closing at eleven most nights and at midnight on Saturdays.
