Cheshire Woodworking

Cheshire Woodworking has operated from a workshop at Alvanley Garage on Commonside, near Frodsham, since Dublin-trained furniture designer and woodwork teacher Ciaran O Braonain set up the business in 2012. O Braonain builds bespoke furniture, gun cases, and hospitality and picnic boxes to order, combining hand tools with precision machinery, and sources hardwoods, leather and other trim materials for each commission individually rather than working from a standard catalogue. Alongside commissioned work, he runs short woodworking courses for adults from the same workshop, teaching joinery and finishing techniques to small groups. His work has drawn wider attention through television, including an appearance as a woodworking expert on BBC Two's Jay's Yorkshire Workshop. The workshop sits on the Sandstone Trail in rural Cheshire and remains O Braonain's only site, with commissions taken directly rather than through a retail showroom. Customers typically visit by appointment to discuss designs before work begins, with turnaround times varying by the complexity of each piece.
