Bill Dobbie and Alasdair Day founded R&B Distillers in 2014 and converted Borodale House, a nineteenth-century building on the Isle of Raasay (Gaelic: Ratharsair), into the island's first legal distillery, which began producing spirit in 2017. The distillery makes Isle of Raasay single malt, matured in ex-American rye, virgin Chinkapin oak and ex-Bordeaux casks, alongside a gin built on ten botanicals. Visitors reach Raasay by ferry from Sconser on Skye before walking or driving to the distillery, where guided tours run daily between March and October. The site includes a bar, a restaurant, a shop and the Na Bothain cabins, letting guests stay in the same building as the working stills. R&B Distillers remains privately held, now under founder Bill Dobbie's Chanrossa Group rather than a multinational drinks company.
